EPIC Empowering People In Care (EPIC) is a national voluntary organisation working with and for children and young adults who are currently in care or who have experience of being in care. This includes those in residential care, foster care, relative care, hostel, high support and special care units or facilities. EPIC also work with children and young adults preparing to leave care and those in aftercare.

 

Participation Officer

EPIC is seeking a dedicated and resourceful professional, with a strong background in child and youth group advocacy, to assist in ensuring that children and young people with care experience are directly involvedin meaningful and transformative co-production of policy and practice in the Irish care system.

 

The voice of children and young people with care experience on issues of relevance and concern to them is essential in developing policy and practice and that creates positive change and quality assurance in the Irish care system.

 

Central to this role is amplifying the voice and maximising the participation and engagement of children and young people on issues that affect them, developing a care community nationally and internationally through the meaningful participation of EPIC’s regional and National Youth Councils in the work of EPIC Empowering People In Care and the participation of children and youth in local, national and global campaigning and consultation.

 

Required skills and experience

 

  • Development of participatory processes and engagement techniques that amplify the voice of children and youth, including those who are harder to reach
  • Development and implementation of participation and engagement programmes 
  • Proven ability to build relationships and develop strong support networks in statutory, voluntary and private sector organisations at all levels
  • Campaign and project management
  • Report writing, research and evaluation and data compilation

 

Professional qualification in Social Work, Psychology or related discipline is essential. 

Minimum of 5 years post qualifying experience required

Willingness to undertake out of hours work and travel as required

Current valid Driving License

 

Highly desirable

  • Knowledge of the Irish childcare system, youth mental health, education and justice systems
  • Knowledge of quality systems, performance and change management
  • Understanding and experience of working in partnerships and collaboratively
  • Understanding of Social Justice advocacy
  • Experience in developing training and outreach materials

 

Additional Information:

Location:        The role will be based in Limerick with travel to other regional offices.

The Dublin office is at 7 Red Cow Lane, Smithfield, Dublin 7.

 

Hours:            39 hours per week
