Title: Team Leader Reporting to: Project Leader

Contract: Full time specified Purpose Contract

Project: Grange Lodge, Dublin 7 Primary Purpose: To work as part of a team, within the Crisis Intervention Services, providing support and assistance to young people aged 15-18 who are out of home in a short-term residential setting. To assist the Project Leader and Assistant Project Leader in providing effective leadership and supervision to the team.

Key Responsibilities

1. Work within the framework of the overall objectives of Focus Ireland 2. To lead a residential team in adhering to the HIQA National Standards for Children’s Residential Centres

3. To attend meetings and represent the team and the agency at external liaisons and to facilitate team meetings, team training and support sessions as required

4. To work in close co-operation with other teams in Focus Ireland, Community Care Social Work Services and other Statutory and Voluntary Agencies as deemed appropriate

5. The ensure placement plans for the young people are developed and followed and to ensure that the young people are included in their care and in their care plan

6. To work in a leadership role as part of a residential rota over 7 days a week

7. To lead the team in providing a safe welcoming environment for young people aged 15-18 who are out of home, including provision of basic care needs such as household duties

8. To lead the team on rota to effectively respond to the changing needs and challenges of the client group

9. To take the lead on shift with Project Workers, and to ensure that the staff team with whom you are on duty carry out allocated tasks in a competent and professional manner

10. To oversee that daily logs, case notes and other information is recorded as required by the National Standards for Children in Residential Services and, barring any mitigating circumstances, ensure these are not passed on to the next team members on duty

11. To participate in daily handovers and facilitate the smooth day to day running of the unit

12. To share clinical supervision of Project Workers, students, CSVs

13. To engage in supervision sessions on a regular basis with the Project Leader

14. To be responsible for conducting the performance appraisals and for monitoring the performance of the staff being supervised by him/her. (Appraisals to also be signed off by the Project Leader and Section Manager)

15. To be responsible for monitoring the performance of the team and feeding back to the Project Leader

16. To be responsible for mentoring the team on a day to day basis

17. To participate in the administrative functions of the project, such as managing the Rota, monitoring the Petty Cash as required by the Project Leader

18. In the absence of the Project Leader and the Assistant Project Leader take on some duties and responsibilities assigned prior to ensure the smooth running of the project particularly over weekend periods

19. To implement the policies and procedures of both Grange Lodge and the agency in collaboration with the Project Leader and the Section Manager

20. To participate in relevant training and development courses as agreed with your Project Leader

21. To undertake such other duties as might be reasonably assigned from time to time in consultation with the Project Leader/Assistant Project Leader

22. To be vigilant to any Health, Safety and Welfare risks in the workplace and bring any concerns to the attention of your line manager or Health & Safety Representative


Please note: This role involves working overnights as part of a shift rota system

Essential Criteria

 

Must have a social care qualification or a qualification in a related and relevant field and have 3 years’ experience of working at social care grade with children.

 A minimum of 3 years full-time work experience in a residential setting

 A third level qualification at degree level in Social care or in a related field

 A working knowledge of the impact of childhood adversity on adolescents

 Knowledge and awareness of HIQA National Standards for Children’s Residential Centres

 A working knowledge and insight into the issues (e.g. substance misuse) that affect customers, in particular adolescents who have or are experiencing homelessness

 Ability to manage and support teenagers in crisis who present with challenging behaviours based upon Focus Irelands values and principles of best practice

 Experience of case management and working in partnership with multidisciplinary teams to holistically meet the needs of service users

 A working knowledge and understanding of the supervision and appraisal process

 A high standard of written communication



Necessary Skills/Competencies

 A working knowledge and understanding of Child Protection, and responses to concerns

 A working knowledge and understanding of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention model

 Supervisory experience

 Teamwork and team support

 Flexible and reliable



Desirable Criteria

 Previous management/Social Care Leader experience


 A working knowledge of HIQA National Standards for Children’s Residential Centres
