Optical Network Planner (Full Time)

Dublin, Ireland



We are looking for an experienced Optical Network Planner to join our Planning Team. This new role will support our clients network infrastructure investment programs. Reporting to our Client, the Optical Network Planner will have responsibility to plan and design new core optical routes and in addition, assist with core network fibre capacity demand planning. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual, with a passion for optimal network designs within a fast paced, collaborative department.  

Specific Requirements

  • Core Network fibre planning and network designs, production of work instructions leading to construction.
  • Develop core fibre reservation, allocation & governance procedure, ensuring compliance across network teams.
  • Support and manage external party access to core fibre records, ensuring diligence is being observed
  • Frequent audit of core network records, pro-actively locating fibre capacity pinch-points, develop capacity plans to resolve.
  • Assist core fibre network design plans, develop construction budget costings.
  • Core fibre record updates within the PNI
  • Launch new innovative Optical Network, PNI based support tools
  • Drive fibre allocation efficiency through on-going procedural improvement

Skills & Expertise

  • Civils & Fibre design drawings, splicing plan instruction
  • Analysis of core fibre network, identification of potential capacity demand
  • Strategic reporting on core network outlook and proposals
  • Assist financial appraisals relating to capital investment associated with fibre growth
  • Experienced PNI (physical network inventory) user, developing network designs maintaining infrastructural as-built records, updating network attributes  
  • PNI fibre record audits, based on internal & external user group appraisals


The Person:

  • A problem solver, comfortable with uncertainty and providing solutions at speed
  • Methodical organisation & task prioritisation skills
  • Influential of both internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Understand people, cares about quality, and embraces change.
  • Minimum three years CAD/GIS experience.
  • Effective & accountable, self-motivated remote worker
  • City & Guilds in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (Telecommunications) or equivalent experience.
  • Full Valid Driving Licence
  • Computer literate preferably in Microsoft Office applications.
